On June 27, 2020 passed away David Stronach (born 1931), one of the well-known representatives of Near Eastern archaeology, distinguished for his excavations at Pasargadae, Tepe Nush - i Jan and Nineveh. He was educated at Gordonstoun and Cambridge University, from which he obtained a Master of Arts in 1958. In the 1960s and 1970s he was director of the British Institute of Persian Studies in Tehran. He was a professor at the University of California, Berkeley during 1981-2004. His scholarship has earned him several honors and awards. He is also the recipient of the 2004 Archaeological Institute of America Gold Medal for "Distinguished Archaeological Achievement". D. Stronach has participated also in archaeological works in Armenia and particularly at the sites Horom and Erebuni. Armenian scientific community sympathizes with the loss of the great scientist.
